Associate Advisor

  • B.A. in History/Secondary Education, Salisbury University

  • M.B.A, University of Colorado Denver

  • Earned right to use Chartered Financial Analyst designation

  • 16 years industry experience, 6 years with Jackson Creek strategies

Brian's diverse industry background spans sell-side research, investment banking, and investment management. His various roles have included industry and security research utilizing both fundamental & quantitative methods, as well as client advising. During his time in investment banking, he guided clients through asset transactions and numerous valuation exercises. He began his financial career at a sell-side firm where he developed financial models and contributed to institutional equity reports, before being given his own coverage universe.

Brian is intimately involved in day-to-day management of our equity strategies. His research efforts enhance the portfolio management process by mixing fundamental insights into Jackson Creek's quantitative process. His involvement began in 2014 when he joined BRC Investment Management. There, he covered several sectors for the fundamental overlay of the company's quantitative equity strategies. Then, at 361 Capital, which acquired BRC Investment Management, his responsibilities grew to include quantitative research and client communications. Now, through the separation of the equity investment and advisory team from 361 Capital into Jackson Creek, Brian is involved in all aspects of research, portfolio management, asset allocation, business development and firm technology.

Through each of these experiences, he has developed a keen interest in behavioral finance and psychology in general.

"I've witnessed how people do not always act in a manner that a model or 'traditional' economic theory would suggest. Research on decision-making and risk tolerances provides much more use for investors than economic forecasts."

Brian graduated from Salisbury University where he was a four-year member of the nationally renowned Division III lacrosse team and named a co-captain during his senior year. His degree is in History & Secondary Education. Originally from New York, he moved to Colorado shortly after college graduation. To aid his career development and knowledge, he pursued a MBA at the University of Colorado Denver.

Outside of work, Brian enjoys skiing, hockey, running, and reading. He and his wife, Kristen, have three daughters. His goals include saving for retirement, college, and weddings.

"With three kids under 18, I have come to realize the need for proper budgeting, saving, and having a solid plan to keep me on track to meet my family's future needs. I fit the "aggressive growth" profile."

Brian currently serves on the board of the Real Colorado youth soccer club, where two of his daughters play. Previously he volunteered with the CFA Society Colorado and also with the Travis Manion Foundation. Brian spent several years coaching lacrosse at various levels from youth through high school.
